Staff Crafting Skill

What is the Staff Crafting Skill? The Staff Crafting Skill is your ability to successfully create Staffs of various types. As you continue to craft the staffs you will accumulate experience in the skill and level it up over time. See 'Staffs' to learn more about how to craft Staffs and their various effects.

What are Staffs? Staffs are a weapon that fire off projectiles with various effects upon hitting their target. The projectile's of staffs completely ignore your enemy's dust resistance which means you can always debuff your target (regardless of their level) for the full debuff time granted from the staff! See 'Resistance:How it works' to learn more about Monster Resistance to dust debuffs. Staffs also offer Area of Effect attacks when using the 'Din' versions! Staffs are perfect for new players and veteran players who wish to go past endgame!

Why use staffs if there are dust? When it comes to the 'Dust' that is equipped directly, you must have 100 of a specific dust to debuff your target for 1 second. This means if you only have 50 dust equipped, you're only debuffing for 0.5 seconds! You would require atleast 220 of the specified dust equipped if you wanted to actually build your targets debuff time. This means it can be rather difficult for new players that don't have enough dust equipped and that's where Staffs come in. A staff is guaranteed to debuff for a specific amount of time and Upgrading can increase this time even more! Eventually you will hit a point where going beyond endgame will increase a monsters resistance to the equipped dust and they no longer have effect, thats where staffs will yet again come back into play. With staffs, you can now continue to progress in leveling to no limit!

Why are staffs great for new players? Lets take a look at the 'Dust Rates' of a Tin Chaos Sword.

  • Tin Chaos Sword
    • Blue Dust Rate:40
    • Red Dust Rate:40
    • White Dust Rate:40

You can see here that when we use a Tin Chaos Sword, we can swing and hit an enemy 40 times before a single dust is consumed. When you craft a 'Blinding Pine Staff', it will start with 20 durability. If you can fire off 20 times before the staff is consumed, that would mean it has a White Dust Rate of 20. Now if we upgrade that staff using a single white dust, we would gain even more durability that scales based on the power of the staff and the upgrade level. This means the further we upgrade, the greater the increase in durability gained each upgrade! That single white dust will stretch much further in the early game when weapons have less than desirable dust rates. While this can be very efficient for newer players, do keep in mind that the AoE staffs consume more dust per upgrade than a single target staff.

Why are staffs great for beyond endgame? When reaching endgame and you continue to level up beyond that point, players will be using Earthkeys. As the monsters in the Earthkey continues to climb in level, so too will its resistance to dust effects. Once your Dust Penetration stat can no longer keep up with the monsters Dust Effect Resistance, you'll notice your debuff times granted from dust that are equipped are starting to decline in the amount of time added per hit. Eventually this time will be reduced to 0 and the monsters can no longer be debuffed. Enter the mighty staff. Staffs completely ignore the monsters resistance no matter the level. While staffs may not grant huge amounts of time per hit, they are guaranteed to add the time.

How do I level it up? You will gain experience in the skill regardless if you failed or succeeded as long as your 'Work Value' does not exceed the 'Task Difficulty +50%'. If the workvalue required is 300, your cutoff is 450.
